This child doesn't stop. Ever. She is a non-stop ball of energy all. day. long. She has always been a great overnight sleeper (thank YOU, Savannah!!), but never a great napper. Especially the past few months. The afternoon nap has gone out the window. We've gone through all the thought processes: "Well, she's a baby. She has to be tired. She needs an afternoon nap," "Maybe this is just a phase," "Maybe she just isn't a napper - maybe she doesn't require as much sleep as other children..." You name it.
Well - I really don't think she needs as much sleep as other babies. She will sleep 11 hours a night - consistently. Then she'll take a morning nap. Anywhere from an hour to two hours. Then she'll take an afternoon nap if she needs one. Sometimes thirty minutes. Sometimes two hours. Sometimes nothing. A lot of the time - nothing.
However, there are still days I will try to wear her out with the intention of trying to get her to take a great afternoon nap. Failure? Most of the time.
Take today as an example. After lunch with a friend, I took Savannah to Plaza Frontenac (it was too chilly outside to run around and play, so I figured the indoor mall would be suitable... and the customer service lady loves her.... so it works...). I parked the stroller by the Customer Service desk like I've done a couple other times, unhooked Savannah, and she was off. Running around like crazy. Laughing, squeeling, waving her ribbon around (a sweet gift from the customer service lady (whom I should know the name of... eeek)), and having a ball. I'd chase her, keep her away from the escalators, make sure she didn't crack her head open as she climbed on and off the couches, chairs, etc. She played with a lady's iPhone and an app that played animal noises. We saw Miss Mindy from Mason Ridge (as usual). We did this for over an hour! Savannah finally laid her entire body out over a small table and yawned. BINGO! Time to go!
She fell asleep right away in the car. I carried her inside (still asleep), put her in bed (still asleep)... and that was it. Nap over. Up. Banging on the crib. Trying to climb out. The monkey is up again. Yawning. Crabby. Overly tired and worn out.... but refusing to go back down!
Early to bed tonight - you crazy, never-needing-to-recharge-your-battery-child (whom I dearly love!!!)
